Sometime last year, I had the pleasure of meeting Devin Marrero.
Marrero wasn’t an ordinary freshman, he was much more than that. Marrero was a special Olympic athlete, swimming his way to win 20 medals since he began competing. In our first interview together, his love of swimming was still there, but hadn’t competed in a while.
I was so excited to publish this article in the college newspaper, The Impact. I couldn’t wait to share Marrero’s story with everyone at Mercy College.
After it was published, things got a little crazy.
Things got so out of hand that a year later, Marrero is now competing again, and has a goal to make it all the way to the 2014 Special Olympics in Brazil. Recently, he has come in first place in all of his events in a swimming meet in Georgia this weekend.
Marrero isn’t your average sophomore in college, he’s a professional athlete.
Here is the link where you can read where Marrero’s journey all began. Also, follow his journey to Brazil through his Facebook page.
I hope you all love this article, and see how truly inspiring Marrero is.
